Joyce Dobbertin, MD, DC from Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital’s Corner Medical Office was named the Vermont Medical Society’s 2012 Physician of the Year for the exemplary and respectful care that she provides her patients in the Northeast Kingdom.
Dr. Dobbertin has been instrumental in the development of the St. Johnsbury Blueprint program, as well as an oncology pilot program and the creation of a rural family practice residency program that aims to improve access to care for many of the state’s most vulnerable populations.
The Physician of the Year Award is granted annually to a physician licensed in the state of Vermont who has demonstrated outstanding performance in the quality of care given to his/her patients; skillful and compassionate patient care; and, dedication to the welfare of his/her patients in accordance with accepted principles of good medical practice.
Upon receiving her award, Dr. Dobbertin said “I’m tremendously honored to receive this award, although I don’t really feel like I received the award, rather that Corner Medical and NVRH received the award for the teamwork at Corner Medical and support from NVRH that fostered an environment of excellence in health care. People come from all over the United States and from many different systems to learn from what we are doing here in the NVRH community.”
Paula Gaskin, NVRH Corner Medical’s Practice Manager said “Our Medical Director, Dr. Tom Broderick, nominated Dr. Dobbertin for this award, and it’s very fitting. I have watched Dr. Dobbertin give her time and expertise to improving the many facets of healthcare for her patients as well as the NEK community and the State of Vermont. Her care goes far beyond her patient appointments; she is tireless in her many commitments. We would not be where we are today without her efforts.”
Paul Bengtson, NVRH CEO said “In the universe of family medicine, Dr. Dobbertin is a supernova! I’m sure the Medical Society couldn’t help but notice all the good she is doing.”
