NVRH BenefitsNVRH offers highly competitive wages and a variety of benefits. We feel it is important to try to include services in our benefit plans that will reach all of our employee needs. All employees working .5 FTE (40 hours per two week pay period) will be eligible to receive benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to, medical, dental, short term disability, life insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, and employee wellness benefits. Every employee regardless of their assigned FTEs (including per diem statused employees) are eligible for our 401(k) retirement plan. Refer to the Benefit Overview below for a more detailed explanation of NVRH's benefits.
NVRH Benefit Plan Overview
Health HEALTH & DENTAL INSURANCE Regular full and part time (with benefits) employees will have hospital sponsored health insurance benefits. Coverage will begin on the first of the month after thirty days of employment. The hospital offers coverage for employee, employee +1, or employee and family. An eligible employee who has proof of coverage elsewhere will be paid an "opting out" medical benefit if they choose not to take our insurance. Medical procedures performed at NVRH are covered for benefitted employees and their dependents at an enhanced benefit level.
PHARMACY PURCHASES Employees covered under our health insurance plan may purchase prescription items using payroll deductions for the applicable co-pays. For those employees not covered by our health insurance (or during the benefit waiting period) pharmacy items may be purchased at cost plus $10.00. SHORT TERM DISABILITY Regular full and part time (with benefits) employees, on the first of the month after thirty days of employment, may receive short term disability benefits starting on the fifteenth day of continuous illness and ending after twenty-six weeks, at which time long term disabiltiy benefits may apply. NVRH pays the cost of this insurance.
LONG TERM DISABILITY Regular full and part time (with benefits) employees, may receive long term disability benefits starting after twenty-six weeks. This benefit may continue to age sixty-five depending on conditions. NVRH pays the cost of this insurance.
WORKERS COMPENSATION Employees are eligible for income reimbursement following three consecutive lost time days and medical expenses if injured at work.
LIFE INSURANCE Regular full and part time (with benefits) employees, on the first of the month after thirty days of employment, are eligible to receive a life insurance benefit of two times annual salary.
SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE INSURANCE Regular full and part time (with benefits) employees have the option of purchasing additional, voluntary life insurance on themselves, their spouses and children, at group rates.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT Employees who choose to participate in the flexible spending account program may set aside up to $4,000 on a pre-tax basis for medical expenses and up to $5,000 per family for dependent care costs. This is available on the first of the month after thirty days of employment, with a change in family status, or at open enrollment every year.
UMBRELLA CHILD CARE REFERRAL ASSISTANCE On employment, employees (Moms or Dads) are eligible to consult with Umbrella child care referral specialists. They will help assess your needs, furnish you with a list of available providers, and consult with you during your search. The $75 fee for this service will be paid by the hospital. Wellness EMPLOYEE HEALTH Employees are immediately eligible for a baseline physical exam and associated lab tests (CBC and UA at the NVRH lab only). This benefit is available on an annual basis. If the employee is covered under the NVRH medical plan, NVRH will pay the co-pay; if not, NVRH will cover the cost of the physical.
EMPLOYEE AND FAMILY REIMBURSED PROGRAMS NVRH will reimburse each employee or member of their family who is on the NVRH health plan, or eligible to be on the health plan, an annual amount of $100 per fiscal year (before taxes) for:
- Weight Watchers or another weight reduction program that is supervised and has a fee associated with it.
- Any aerobic fitness program or aerobic activity in which must pay a fee. This would cover any health clubs, aerobic programs, tennis, swimming, skiing or fees for usage of cross country skiing/hiking/biking trails. A detailed receipt must be produced.
- Any activity from the NVRH Wellness Calendar. Please ask for a receipt for your participation.
- NVRH Heart Healthy Benefit.
NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING ASSISTANCE The hospital registered Dietician directs programs for both adult and adolescent weight management. Employees are eligible to particpate at no charge. Click here to visit NVRH Nutrition Counseling Services.
ST. JOHNSBURY ACADEMY FIELDHOUSE PASSES Twelve free passes to the St. Johnsbury Academy Fieldhouse are available to employees and one guest on a daily basis. PATIENT/EMPLOYEE CHAPLAIN Chaplaincy services are availalbe on a full time basis for any patient, family, or employee requiring assistance or guidance. A Chapel is located on premises for private consultation. Click here to visit NVRH Chaplaincy.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE Employees are immediately eligible to participate in a confidential employee assistance program (EAP), Casey &Associates. This program provides private counseling for employees & their families on many types of issues, personal or professional. Also, through our EAP, you and your family will have access to an on-line service called LifeHub. (Click on the link on the right hand side of this page for more information on LifeHub.) Retirement Benefits 401(k) RETIREMENT PLAN Employees are participants in the NVRH 401(k) Retirement Plan the first of the month after thirty days of employment.
NVRH automatically contributes 3% of your annual income into investment that you choose. If you contribute at least 1 and 1/2 % of your income into the 401k plan, NVRH will match another 1 and 1/2 %. That means a total 4 and 1/2 % contribution from NVRH.
Compensation DIFFERENTIALS Employees who work on the evening, night, or week-end shift are eligible for this hourly pay supplement for eligible hours when working the appropriate shift and when percentage of worked hours on shift criteria is met. The differentials are $1.50/hour Evenings; $3.00/hour Nights; $1.50/hour Weekends.
OVERTIME Hourly employees, when working in excess of 40 hours per week, are eligible to receive time and one-half your average base hourly rate.
DIRECT DEPOSIT Employees with accounts may opt to have their paycheck, or a portion of their paycheck, automatically deposited to their local bank. Electronic paystubs are also an available option, eliminating usage of a paper paystubs.
NORTHERN LIGHTS CREDIT UNION Employees wishing to join may become members of the Northern Lights Credit Union and enjoy benefits extended to members through payroll deductions.
HOSPITAL BILL PAYMENT PLAN For employees incurring NVRH hospital bills, a consistent, interest free payment plan may be arranged through the Credit Department. An additional option of payroll deduction is also available.
Time Off From Work EARNED TIME Regular full and part time employees are eligible to accrue earned time immediately. Earned time may be used as per policy on the first of the month after thirty days of employment. You may accrue 25, 30, or 35 days annually depending on length of service, hours worked, and employment status.
EARNED TIME CASH IN Employees, when eligible to receive earned time, may cash in a portion of their earned time on a twice yearly basis. Restrictions apply on the number of hours that may be cashed per calendar year.
LEAVES OF ABSENCE Employees, on the first of the month after thirty days of employment may receive an approved absence from work without loss of seniority. In addition, as required by state and federal law, a "Family Leave" of up to twelve weeks may also be granted.
FUNERAL LEAVE Regular full and part time employees, on the first of the month after thirty days of employment, are eligible to receive three consecutive days off with pay for an immediate family member and one day for funeral attendance for other family members.
MILITARY/JURY DUTY Regular full and part time employees, on the first of the month after thirty days of employment, are eligible to receive the difference between normal earnings and dollars received for military or jury duty.
VOTING Employees are immediately eligible for time off to vote if no other arrangements are available.
Professional Development PROFESSIONAL MEETINGS/CONTINUING EDUCATION All employees will be eligible to receive paid time to attend approved educational sessions, with management approval.
TUITION FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Regular full and part time employees, after 3 months of employment, are eligible to receive $2,000 per academic year, subject to availability of funds as reviewed each fiscal year. Your department manager and Vice President of Human Resources must approve the tuition request prior to the start of a course.
PROFESSIONAL LIBRARY The Medical Library at NVRH is available to all employees. In addition, our Medical Librarian is able to assist employees with computer searches for technical information. Click here to visit NVRH Medical Library.
Other Benefits CAFETERIA Cafeteria benefits are extended immediately to all employees, which includes payroll deducted meals, a free meal on their birthday, and free meals on Christmas and Thanksgiving.
EMPLOYEE GIFT FUND Employees wishing to join may become members of the Employee Gift Fund immediately and will recive gifts on indicated occasions.
ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE Employees wishing to join the NVRH Activities Committee may participate in planning employee social activities held throughout the year.
GARDEN PRIVILEGES The hospital provides garden space, if available, for use by employees.
FREE PARKING The hospital maintains a parking lot with ample space for employees to park their cars within close proximity to the hospital.

CENTRAL SUPPLY PURCHASES Items at cost plus 10% may be purchased from the NVRH SPD department by all employees immediately upon employment.
COMPUTER HARDWARE The hospital will finance up to $1,000, interest free, for the purchase of computer hardware. Repayment is made using the payroll deduction program.
