Vermont Tech, Lyndon State College, and NVRH To Collaborate on Nursing Program

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt—Vermont Technical College, in collaboration with Lyndon State College and Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital will offer both a Practical Nursing (PN) and Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) program to residents of northeastern Vermont beginning in late summer, 2009. An Associate of Science and Nursing degree program currently offered by Castleton State College will continue to operate during the transition process, allowing current Castleton students at Lyndon State College to complete their program of study.

The Vermont Tech program will begin admitting students immediately, and will welcome its first class in late August. Classroom instruction will be provided over the Vermont Interactive Television network and clinical work will be done at NVRH.

"We are pleased and excited to welcome the North campus of Vermont Tech’s Extended Nursing program to the Northeast Kingdom," said Veronica Hychalk, Vice President of Professional Services at NVRH. "It will open up both personal and professional opportunities to residents throughout the Kingdom as well as to keep in place an important learning and training program." Founded in 1972, NVRH is a community, not-for-profit acute care facility providing primary and preventative care, surgical and specialty services, inpatient and outpatient care, and 24-hour physician staffed emergency services.

"We are also excited about being able to, once again, offer both of our nursing programs to residents of the Northeast Kingdom," said Vermont Tech Nursing Director Anna Gerac. "This will bring to eleven the number of extended nursing sites available throughout Vermont."

"LSC is pleased to continue offering nursing in the Northeast Kingdom," said Carol A. Moore, President of Lyndon State College. "We enjoyed our relationship with Castleton and look forward to working with Vermont Tech."
