Dr. Joshua Kantrowitz to Start at NVRH St. Johnsbury Pediatrics

On Monday, October 6, Dr. Joshua Kantrowitz will start seeing patients at NVRH St. Johnsbury Pediatrics. Having most recently been a Clinical Instructor at Dartmouth College and Chief Resident in Pediatrics at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, Kantrowitz is excited to be moving to the Northeast Kingdom. "Living and practicing in a rural community has always been my goal. I feel fortunate to be practicing with the great group at St. Johnsbury Pediatrics."

Asked why he chose pediatrics, Kantrowitz smiled and said, "In my rotations, I found myself enjoying pediatrics tremendously, and I think it’s important to spend your time doing something you love. I also like working with the extended family; you’re working with a team and I like the collaboration and dynamics that come with that."

Kantrowitz grew up and graduated from high school in the Boston area. After deferring from college for a year, he worked as a volunteer in the Frontier Nursing Service in Hyden, KY. There, he developed a deeper understanding of rural healthcare and the forces that drive it. He graduated from Harvard University in 1996, taught for three years in a private school in Sandy, UT and enrolled in medical school at the Boston University School of Medicine in 1999.

He took an extra year during medical school to live and volunteer in Central America, both to develop his Spanish language skills and to develop his interest in international medicine. He plans to return to Nicaragua for a month each year to practice medicine. His wife, Cornelia Hasenfuss and 14-month old daughter Willa, will accompany him, as they did for a month this summer.

Cornelia Hasenfuss is a photographer with a great love of the outdoors. Together, Hasenfuss and Kantrowitz telemark ski, hike, and rock climb.
The physicians at NVRH St. Johnsbury Pediatrics are excited to have Kantrowitz joining the practice. "Between the depth of his background and his love and commitment to rural communities, we feel very fortunate," states Mark Price, Medical Director.

To set up an appointment with Dr. Kantrowitz, please call the office at 748-5131.
