Wednesday, August 12, 2009 Eye Associates of Northern New England is pleased to announce that Dr. Krista Haight, MD has joined their practice as an ophthalmologist. Haight is happy to be returning to the Northeast Kingdom; she worked at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation for 2 years as a social services assistant. "When the opportunity rose to return to the area, I was thrilled. My colleagues at Eye Associates are terrific and I look forward to working with them," said Haight.
Haight was born and raised in Bennington, VT. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in Social Work and a BS in Psychology. She minored in Gerontology. She earned her MD from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 2005. Haight was a Freeman Medical Scholar. The purpose of the Freeman Vermont Medical Scholars Program is to help meet the health care needs of Vermont residents by assisting medical students who graduate from the UVM College of Medicine, to practice in Vermont, especially in the state’s rural and under served areas. Haight recently completed her ophthalmology residency at Hershey Medical Center at Penn State.
"We feel tremendously fortunate to have Dr. Haight join us at Eye Associates," states Dr. Stephen Phipps. "Besides her background and training, her prior knowledge and love of the Northeast Kingdom is an added bonus."
Haight will be working in both the St. Johnsbury and Littleton offices. She has a broad foundation of surgical experience, but will primarily perform cataract surgery.
Haight is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society. Her hobbies include kayaking, cross-country skiing, biking and hiking.
