CTComputed Tomography (CT) at NVRH is performed on a state of the art 64 slice CT scanner. The CT features advanced technology that produces high qualilty and high resolution images with fast scan times. The speed of the scan makes for a more pleasant experience for the patient. All patients can benefit from the short speed time especially those with breathing difficulties and/or those in pain or distress. The quick scan allows pediatric patients to be scanned without the need for sedation. CT uses x-ray and a computer to produce digital cross sectional images of the body. The x-rays rotate around the body creating multiple images or "slices". This non-invasive procedure allows for detailed visualization of internal organs, bones, lungs, blood vessels and soft tissues. With the use of a computer, 3 Dimensional images are created from the thin slice digital images.
Patients may be asked to drink a barium mixture which will outline the esophagus, stomach and intestines.
Patients may receive an injection of iodinated contrast material which will outline the blood vessels.
All our CT services are provided under the direction of board certified radiologists. All of our CT technologists are American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certified and licensed by the state of Vermont. All of our technologists belong to the (ASRT) American Society of Radiologic Technologists
