ChaplaincyNVRH provides a full-time, interfaith chaplain as part of our philosophy that there are many facets to regaining one’s health. Chaplains are people who have been specially trained to be present to help you both spiritually and emotionally.
At NVRH a chaplain is available to assist you in drawing upon spiritual resources meaningful for you. The chaplain can help you find your pastor, rabbi or religious leader. If you don’t have one, but might like to connect with a faith community, we can help with that too.
The most common activity of a chaplain is listening and being present to you and your family. If you are stressed and simply want someone to sit with you, we are there. If you would like someone objective to listen to your thoughts and worries, we are there. Yes, chaplains pray with patients and read scriptures or other holy readings, but that is only a part of what we do. A chaplain is there for you to support your spiritual needs and is non-judgmental. Your beliefs are your own and no one will try to change them.
You can request a chaplain by dialing 748-7473 or ask a staff member to contact the chaplain for you. Our non-denominational chapel is located on the first floor of the hospital. There you can find a quiet place to sit, think, or pray.
At times of illness and/or great change in our lives we may experience feelings of anxiety and find that we are not quite “ourselves.” Talkative folk get quiet and calm people shake with anxiety. Even a happy event such as the birth of a baby may result in all sorts of feelings that seem closer to the surface than usual. These are times when our chaplain can help.
