Breast Feeding SupportThe NVRH Birth Center has a certified Lactation Consultant to ensure that a nursing mother and baby go home fully prepared. All the nurses in the Birth Center have extensive training to support breastfeeding moms.
The consultation, counseling, and support services provided include:
- Prenatal Visits
- Basic breastfeeding education
- Getting started with breastfeeding and establishing a milk suppy
- Building support at home
- Identifying community resources
- Overcoming previous problems with breastfeeding Postpartum Visits
- Outpatient consultations for mother/baby pairs experiencing problems
- Support and encouragement
There is also a telephone “warm” line for seeking advice from home, and the “Mothers Breastfeeding Circle” a support group for new moms to learn and share together.
NVRH also offers classes with practical tips for breastfeeding moms returning to work, as well as outreach to local businesses to help them make it easier for their breastfeeding employees returning to work.
