Laboratory ServicesWelcome to NVRH Laboratory Services! Outpatient Laboratory Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
No appointment necessary. Patients are encouraged to pre-register by calling 802-748-8141 prior to their arrival date.
The Laboratory Department, under the clinical supervision of the pathologist, serves our patients with state-of-the-art test equipment. Tests done in the Laboratory enable a provider to confirm a clinical impression, establish or rule out a diagnosis, monitor therapy, establish a prognosis, and screen for or detect disease.
Some of the services offered in the NVRH Laboratory include:
Chemistry - examples include determining blood sugar and cholesterol levels
Hematology - for the diagnosis of anemia or infection
Microbiology - provide information about infections and treatment options
Blood bank - for determining compatability of blood for transfusion
95% of laboratory tests are performed right here at NVRH. Tests not performed at NVRH are sent to Fletcher Allen Health Care or Mayo Medical Laboratories.
Services of a pathologist are provided for patients whose physicians request examination of tissue removed as a result of surgical procedure, whether inpatient or outpatient. The pathologist evaluates the samples for cellular changes. These findings are then reported to the ordering physician.
The pathologist provides medical direction of the laboratory that includes ongoing medical education to the laboratory staff. The pathologist acts as an associate professor for the UVM school of medicine and is uniquely qualified to provide this level of education to our staff.

For easy and direct access to NVRH laboratory services, park in the lower parking lot off of Sherman Drive and use the entrance at the west end of the hospital.
