Giving patients easy access to a primary care doctor while at NVRH
The NVRH hospitalist program is an inpatient coverage system that allows patients admitted to the hospital continuous access to a doctor during the day seven days a week.
While this means you may not always see your regular doctor when you are in the hospital, your doctor will receive reports about your condition and is expected to advise on your care as needed.
There are many benefits to the hospitalist program:
- The hospitalist doctor is available to respond to emergent, urgent, and routine issues on the medical floor.
- The hospitalist doctor is available to admit and discharge patients more quickly during the day.
- There is improved access to your primary care doctor in the medical offices because your doctor's time is not divided between hospital and office patients every day.
Your surgeon is not part of the hospital coverage program, but benefits by having ready access to a medical consultant from the hospitalist.
