Ophthalmology Lasers

The latest innovation in laser therapy treatment for glaucoma is available at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. Selective laser trabculoplasty (SLT) replaces more traditional laser therapy SLT works by using the laser light to stimulate the body's own healing response to lower the pressure in the eye. The special wave-length and energy in the SLT affects only the targeted cells of the eye and improves the flow of fluid in the eye, the improved flow of fluid in turn lowers the pressure.

SLT was approved for use in the treatment of glaucoma by the FDA in 2001. NVRH is the first hospital in northern Vermont and New Hampshire, including the large medical centers, to have this technology.
