Summary of Process for Openness and Public Participation
Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital achieves openness, inclusiveness, and public participation in our strategic planning and decision making continually through the Northeastern Vermont Regional Corp. (NVRC) Corporators.
The Corporators are an invaluable source of wisdom and perspective for hospital leadership. They are key links in the essential communication system between members of our community and the hospital.
The Corporators consist of Class A members of not less than 50 and not more than 225 persons nominated by the Board of Directors and elected by the Corporators, and members of the NVRH medical staff who have served as members of the medical staff for at least six months. The sole Class B member is the representative from the Dartmouth Hitchcock Alliance (DHA) or “DHA Member”.
Basic characteristics of Corporators include:
· Recognize and represent the diverse communities and people served by NVRH.
· Attend the Annual Meeting and any special meetings of the Corporators.
· Attend and participate in the quarterly Corporators meetings.
· Be informed about the mission, services, policies, and programs of NVRH.
· Seek to learn about developments with the healthcare field.
· Work for the good of the community hospital and those it serves.
NVRH also gives and gets input on a continual basis by participation from staff in ongoing committee and board meetings, events, and activities of local organizations including Umbrella, Inc., Northeast Kingdom Human Services, Area Agency on Aging, the Community Coordinating Council, Northeast Kingdom Youth Services, Rotary, Area Health Education Center, NEK Chamber of Commerce, Northern Counties Health Care, schools, and many more. Representatives from many of these same organizations also serve on NVRH committees.
Other activities available for community members are numerous volunteer opportunities. To learn more about volunteer opportunities at NVRH call the Volunteer Coordinator at 802-748-7310. Volunteers of all ages provide support services in almost all departments in the hospital.
NVRH continues to hold open public meetings at least annually, and as interest in specific healthcare issues arise.
To learn more about opportunities and upcoming activities for public participation, including receiving a personal tour of the facilities call or write:
